Martin Minute
Superintendent Summary - October 2021

Dr. Andrea Martin

Superintendent, Greenland School District

01 October, 2021

October!  My how time flies when you are having fun!

October has always been one of my favorite months at school, but it is also almost always the busiest of all months, next to May!  All school events can be found on our District Calendar located on our website.

As we are now ending the first quarter, we are still encouraging vaccines and mask wearing as the top two mitigators against the COVID virus.  Our Board voted to require masks when the ACHI.net data shows we are in the red or purple range, currently as I write this we are in orange which is good, that means cases are going down.  It also means masks are currently optional.  You can continue to monitor the status here on our COVID Dashboard.

We continue to ensure social distancing in our classrooms and common spaces and we are continuing to clean and disinfect and provide hand sanitizer and N95 masks around campus and in classrooms.  We ask that you please screen for any symptoms prior to sending your student to school.  If you or your child have been exposed or have any symptoms at all, please call our COVID point of contact, at 479-225-6341.  If students and staff have been exposed and have been vaccinated, they will not be required to quarantine if they are not showing any symptoms. If students are wearing masks properly, they will also not be required to quarantine. If your child exhibits symptoms while at school you will be notified by the school nurse, Principal or COVID point of contact; or if your student is identified as a close contact, you will be required to quarantine as mandated in law by the Arkansas Department of Health.

Our early out Wednesdays began September 15th.  You can find additional calendar information via our website located here!  We utilize these early out days for staff professional development and planning and continued preparations for student learning.  You can read a small glimpse of the work that is happening on campus in the AAEA September Instructional Leader issue.  Parent Teacher conferences will be held soon, those dates and times will be communicated with you from your building Principal and teachers.  As the season begins to change, keep an eye on the weather and encourage your students to dress accordingly.

The school will host a flu clinic on October 20th, information from our nurses will be shared soon, say BOO to the FLU and watch for that paperwork!

Facility improvements continue to evolve on campus, the admin office is on schedule for January completion and the new canopy and roof project will begin in the Spring due to material delays, thanks to COVID :(  Additionally, the Agril building improvements will begin soon, which includes new windows and brick.  The final phase of improvements which include asphalt parking repairs and new lots will happen this summer!

If you have any other questions please let us know and as always, we have many resources available if you need anything!  Our Pirate Pantry as well as our Essential Outreach program is ready to help!  That is our ALL means ALL philosophy.
