Halloween lab in Chemistry with Mrs. Campos! We mixed different potions with Witch’s Blood (purple cabbage juice) as a base. The anthocyanin in purple cabbage gives it its purple color, and is also a natural pH indicator. Students got to do some “potion mixing” and see the beautiful hues that occur when the anthocyanins react with acid (pink) and alkaline (blue) substances.
In physical science, we demonstrated the phenomenon that we have been learning about all week-the inability for polar and non-polar substances to mix. We made use of this knowledge and some alka-seltzer to create our very own lava lamps!

Jose, Zaedyn, and Jerzee were recognized for their outstanding leadership and initiative after second breakfast, as they took it upon themselves to sweep up and clean trash without being asked.
In recognition of their positive actions, each student received a principal’s referral, a complimentary Raisin’ Canes meal, a soda, and some Skittles. Their behavior reflects the strong leadership culture that GMS strives to instill in all students!
